The New York Jets appear set to conclude the current season with yet another top-ten draft pick, raising concerns as they might finish with a dismal record of 3-14 during Aaron Glenn's inaugural year as head coach.
Their offensive performance has placed them among the bottom five teams in the league, both in terms of yards accumulated per game and points scored.
On Saturday, the team disclosed that they would be without their leading all-purpose yardage player, Breece Hall, for the season's final matchup.
Despite actively participating in all 16 games this season, Hall has now been ruled out due to a knee injury. This comes after he showcased an impressive game last week against the New England Patriots, where he carried the ball 14 times for 111 yards and found the end zone once.
The timing of this announcement, along with the specifics surrounding Hall’s contract situation, raises eyebrows and invites scrutiny.
When Glenn first took the helm in New York, the team made headlines by granting three significant contract extensions. These extensions were awarded to standout players: Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson. Notably, all four of these athletes, including Hall, were chosen among the first 40 picks of the 2022 NFL Draft.
However, a peculiar detail stands out—while Gardner, Wilson, and Johnson all secured their extensions, Hall was the only one who did not receive such a deal. As a result, speculation has circulated that this could potentially be Hall’s final season with the Jets, even before the season commenced.
With Hall now sidelined for the last game of the season due to what many consider a questionable injury, it seems to confirm the growing consensus regarding his uncertain future with the team.
Throughout the three seasons following his impressive rookie year, Hall averaged an outstanding total of 1,453 yards each season. Should the Jets decide not to extend his contract, he would emerge as one of the most sought-after free-agent running backs available on the market.
