Berlin/Tashkent — In a bold step set to transform Uzbekistan’s logistics and retail landscape, global law firm Dentons has guided Korzinka, the country’s leading food retail chain, through the development, design, and construction contract for a cutting-edge new distribution center in Tashkent. This facility is not just any warehouse—it is the largest Class A distribution center in Central Asia, representing a major milestone for both the Uzbek retail market and the regional logistics sector. Equipped with advanced green technologies, the center is designed to propel Korzinka’s ambitious growth strategy forward.
Founded in 1996, Korzinka has steadily grown into a household name, operating more than 190 stores across 12 regions. Its operations span various formats, including full-sized Korzinka supermarkets, Korzinka Mahalla neighborhood stores, the Korzinka Biznes wholesale chain, and the Korzinka Go online supermarket, catering to both everyday shoppers and business clients.
The newly inaugurated distribution center covers an impressive 49,000 square meters, replacing four older logistics sites and becoming the cornerstone of Korzinka’s network. This expansion is a critical element of the company’s plan to reach 1,000 stores nationwide by 2028. Beyond simply increasing storage space, the center will centralize operations, enhance supply chain efficiency, and improve product availability on store shelves. This will create a more resilient and responsive logistics system capable of meeting growing customer demands. In addition, the project is set to generate over 1,000 new jobs, provide strong support to local farmers and suppliers, and improve access to high-quality, affordable food for communities beyond the capital.
The significance of the project was underscored by a visit from the President of Uzbekistan, who emphasized that the nation has attracted $130 billion in foreign investment, a clear indicator of robust confidence in the Uzbek market (https://president.uz/en/lists/view/8574). This high-profile attention highlights the center’s importance not just for Korzinka, but for the broader economic development of the country.
The deal was spearheaded by Berlin-based partner Florian Schneider (https://www.dentons.com/en/florian-schneider), an expert in international investment projects in emerging markets, alongside Eldor Mannopov (https://www.dentons.com/en/eldor-mannopov), Managing Partner of Dentons’ Tashkent office. Mannopov provided critical guidance to Korzinka on meeting the ESG standards required by the International Finance Corporation, which financed the project.
