Remember when Coventry City first returned to the CBS Arena, determined to make their mark in the Championship? They had a knack for snatching victory from the jaws of defeat with late goals. Think of those pulse-pounding finishes from Kyle McFadzean against QPR and Nottingham Forest, or Matty Godden's decisive strikes against Reading and Bristol City. There's an undeniable magic in a stoppage-time goal, isn't there? It transforms a feeling of settling for a draw as the clock winds down into pure, unadulterated euphoria!
And on Saturday, against Stoke City, we witnessed that magic unfold once more. Jack Rudoni, with a little help from a deflection off Potters' defender Ben Gibson, steered the ball home. This goal wasn't just a point; it secured the Sky Blues' fourth consecutive victory in just 12 days, powerfully reasserting their dominance at the top of the division.
While it might not have been as spectacular as some of Rudi's previous stunners – like his towering header at Bramall Lane or his exquisite top-corner finish at The Hawthorns – this goal was brimming with character and determination. From Brandon Thomas-Asante's perfectly weighted ball for Ellis Simms to chase, to the attacking midfielder's composure in slotting the loose ball into the net, it was a true team effort.

Even though there are still 11 crucial games remaining, this felt like a monumental moment. It solidified City's return to promotion-contending form after a mid-season wobble that had rivals rubbing their hands together, anticipating a collapse.
But here's where it gets truly heartwarming... Manager Frank Lampard was clearly swept up in the joy, even breaking into song – belting out 'We'll Live and Die in These Towns' – as he joined his players for the post-match celebrations. We can all, in our minds, be resigned to what might be in the seven minutes of stoppage time and the game being broken by them at any point and it could die. But our lads didn’t let it die and we got a big three points and we know they are all critical now, so you can enjoy that at the end because the fans loved it, I loved it and the players loved it. And they should because of the way they played, and then quickly come down and think about the next one. But they fought for the result and I thought they were brilliant in every sense of the game."
