A Shocking Move: G2 Esports' IGL Valyn on the Unexpected Departure of JonahP
In a surprising turn of events, G2 Esports' decision to part ways with their Canadian player, JonahP, left little room for him to find a new team. This move came as a shock, especially considering G2's impressive performances in 2025.
G2 Esports, a consistent force in the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT), not only secured their spot in the International League for another year but also achieved remarkable results. They finished as runners-up at Masters Bangkok and secured a top five placement at Masters Toronto, showcasing their potential on the global stage.
But here's where it gets controversial... Speaking to Esports Insider, G2's IGL, Jacob 'Valyn' Batio, revealed that the decision to remove JonahP was sudden and unexpected. He emphasized the team's constant pursuit of improvement and the hectic nature of the offseason, which led to this impulsive choice.
"We wanted to bring in a fresh perspective, especially regarding the mental aspect of the game. Andrej 'babybay' brought an increase in performance during Stage 2 when leaf was absent, and we believe he can provide that mental edge going into 2026," Valyn explained.
Babybay, who has joined the starting roster, echoed Valyn's sentiments, stating, "My role is to keep the team focused mentally. I assist Valyn with his strategic calls and ensure everyone stays on track, even when distractions arise."
And this is the part most people miss... G2 Esports is on a mission to lift an international VCT trophy in 2026. Despite their consistent performance, the organization has yet to claim an international title. They came close at Masters Bangkok but fell short against T1 in a heart-wrenching best-of-five series.
Valyn acknowledged the mental challenges the team faced and believes bringing in babybay is a step towards success. He hopes to finally bring home an international trophy during the 2026 season.
"Last year had its ups and downs. We failed to live up to our expectations at Champions Paris, and it hit us hard. We managed a top four finish in Toronto, but let's be honest, it was a miracle we even got there. We're determined to reach that first-place finish, and we believe this decision is a step in the right direction, even if it was difficult."
So, what do you think? Is G2 Esports making the right move by bringing in babybay? Will they finally claim that elusive international title in 2026? Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments below! We'd love to hear your opinions on this controversial roster change.
