Arsenal FC: Mikel Arteta Defends Summer Signings' Minutes, Amidst Questions from Fans
Arsenal fans have been questioning the playing time of recent signings, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke, with some speculating that their minutes on the pitch might be insufficient. Eze, who joined Arsenal for a whopping £67.5 million from Crystal Palace, and Madueke, who arrived from Chelsea for around £50 million, have been on the bench more often than not. However, Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, has come to their defense, emphasizing the importance of understanding each player's emotional state and assessing their game minutes.
"I speak to every player, and they always need to understand and the manager needs to understand how each one is feeling. We assess games and emotional states. Eberechi has played more games and minutes than ever before at this time. He's played 22 out of 28 games or something like this. He's never played that much football before, so we're on a good track," Arteta said.
While Madueke's minutes have been limited due to injury, he has impressed when he has been on the field. The recent form of Martin Odegaard and Leandro Trossard has made it particularly challenging for Eze and Madueke to secure a starting spot. Some fans have suggested that both players might be concerned about their playing time in a World Cup year, but Arteta has assured that there are no issues with the pair.
"From who? What they need to do is be prepared like they've been and when they have the opportunity to play, perform like any other player. This is no different. There have been periods where they have played every three days, sometimes they played too much. Noni has been injured for a while, and we have to manage and monitor his load. With Eberechi, the first few months we've had some great moments with him, we had some other moments where there are things we need to improve. We are on that journey. The good thing is they want it so badly. The way they come in every single day and how much they want to give to the team and impact the games is great to witness. That's the mentality they need to maintain," Arteta added.
While some fans might disagree with Arteta's approach, it's clear that he is committed to developing the young talents. The question remains: will Eze and Madueke be able to secure a regular starting spot in the team? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, Arteta's defense of his summer signings has sparked a discussion that will continue to evolve as the season progresses.
