Renowned for his gritty and determined playing style, Dineen’s hockey career spanned nearly two decades from 1984 to 2002, during which he appeared in over 1,200 regular-season and playoff games. His journey took him through several teams, including the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers, Ottawa Senators, and Columbus Blue Jackets. His relentless spirit on the ice earned him respect and admiration from teammates and fans alike.
After retiring as a player, Dineen briefly moved into scouting and front-office roles before dedicating the next 20 years of his career to coaching. Among his notable coaching achievements was leading the Florida Panthers as head coach from 2011 to 2013. A particularly remarkable moment came in 2014 when Dineen stepped in as a late replacement to coach Canada’s women’s hockey team, guiding them to an Olympic gold medal in Sochi.
