Paul Doyle Pleads Guilty in Liverpool Parade Crash: 134 Injured in Shocking Incident (2026)

A day of celebration turned into a scene of unimaginable horror: Paul Doyle, the man responsible for driving into a crowd celebrating Liverpool's victory parade, has pleaded guilty, leaving many shaken. This incident, reported by Granada's Zoe Muldoon from Liverpool Crown Court, highlights the devastating consequences of his actions.

Doyle, a 54-year-old from Croxteth, Liverpool, initially denied all charges related to the incident on May 26th, when fans gathered to celebrate Liverpool's Premier League title win. But here's where it gets controversial... On November 26th, during his trial, Doyle changed his plea and admitted to dangerous driving, affray, 17 charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, nine counts of causing GBH with intent, and three counts of wounding with intent.

During the proceedings, Doyle was visibly distraught, speaking in a broken voice and wiping away tears. The jury had been sworn in the previous day, but the sudden change in plea brought a swift end to the trial.

Over 130 people were injured when Doyle drove his Ford Galaxy Titanium into the crowd on Water Street just after 6 pm. He was arrested at the scene, and the charges relate to 29 victims, ranging in age from six months to 77 years old.

The youngest victim, Teddy Eveson, was reportedly thrown about 15 feet in his pram during the crash. Doyle admitted to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to the baby. Five other children, who were either injured or targeted, cannot be named for legal reasons.

Recorder of Liverpool Judge Andrew Menary KC stated that a custodial sentence was inevitable, and Doyle should prepare himself. Sentencing is scheduled for December 15th.

Sarah Hammond, Chief Crown Prosecutor (CPS) for Mersey-Cheshire, stated that Doyle's guilty plea brought a measure of justice for the act. She emphasized the deliberate nature of Doyle's actions, highlighting that dashcam footage showed his increasing agitation towards the crowds. The footage revealed that instead of waiting for the crowds to pass, he intentionally drove at them. She also commended the bravery of the emergency services.

A Liverpool FC spokesman expressed hope that the conviction would bring peace to those affected and thanked the emergency services and public for their bravery.

This incident raises serious questions about public safety at large gatherings. What measures should be in place to prevent such incidents in the future? Do you believe the sentence will be sufficient? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
