A 53-year-old man has been apprehended and charged in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred on December 19 in Tampines, Singapore. The incident, which took place in a bustling area filled with both commuters and shoppers, unfolded around 5:55 PM near the U-Taste coffee shop located at Tampines Central 1.
Mohamed Sufian Mohamed Sabri was formally charged on December 20, accused of deliberately inflicting harm with a knife upon Mr. Mohd Hyril Beins. Although the court documents did not disclose the victim's age, it was reported that he suffered knife wounds to his right lower back and left forearm.
Eyewitnesses recounted hearing a disturbance in a tented area designated for open-air markets, situated between the Tampines MRT station and Tampines Mall. Following the commotion, they observed a man with a shirt stained in blood making his way towards the MRT entrance, leaving behind a trail of blood droplets. It’s noteworthy that the view of the scene was partially obstructed by the awning of the coffee shop, yet those present were able to see the individual walking approximately 30 meters away from the initial site of the incident.
When emergency services, including police officers and paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, arrived at the location, the victim was found to be conscious. According to the details outlined in the court proceedings, Sufian was under a remission order that was effective from October 4, 2023, to January 13, 2026, issued by the Commissioner of Prisons. Generally, inmates can be released after serving two-thirds of their sentence, contingent upon good behavior during their incarceration, as outlined by the Singapore Prison Service.
Upon release, individuals are placed under a Conditional Remission Order, which stipulates that they must not commit any offenses during the remission period. Sufian is now facing allegations of violating this order due to the events that transpired in Tampines.
